For the A-to-Z Challenge 2016, I am blogging info on my current work-in-progress, a YA fantasy/adventure mini-series tentatively titled “The Other World”.
I’ve already told you that there is ancient magic in the universe of ‘The Other World’, and that there are ancient creatures suffused with that magic. Eden is one of these creatures, nearly as old as the planet itself.
Eden is not the creature’s true name – it has no true name – but rather the name of the human woman whose body is inhabited by the magical being. She is a beautiful woman, calm and ethereal, whose body is always wrapped in pure white robes that cover her eyes at all times. Her lips are the bright red of fresh blood and are almost always turned up in a gentle smile.
Eden, the human woman, was kind and loving, and at the onset of the events of ‘The Other World’ she was betrayed by the man she loved. She, in turn, sacrificed her happiness to stop that man from doing something absolutely reprehensible, but she only succeeded in delaying his plan for a period of time.
In her time of misery and failure, Eden was approached by a tiny, flame-like being who whispered promises to her. “I can set events in motion,” it told her, “that will end what was begun today. But I require a physical form in order to accomplish this feat.” And so, the human woman offered her body to the little magical creature, and together they set off to do what had to be done.
In the years that followed Eden became advisor to the royal family, watching over them and protecting them and the kingdom. Her plan did not go the way she intended it to, but she was, in fact, able to set the proper wheels rolling. In the years that have passed since, Eden has traveled the land, using her magic to help the numerous tribes which have scattered, desperate to stay as far away from humans as possible. She is considered by some to be a saint, by others to be a meddler, but in either case she does the best she can, for she knows that someday – she hopes soon – her plan will come to fruition. She knows that their savior is coming home.
I hope you’re enjoying the A-to-Z Challenge and my little snippets of ‘The Other World’! If you’re interested in what else I’ve written, please be sure to check out ‘Nowhere to Hide‘, available on Amazon in both hard copy and e-book versions!
