Fab Fit Fun Unboxing and Review for Summer 2015

It may seem like a strange subscription box to feature on my YouTube channel since everything else I talk about is super-nerdy, but I’m really rather in love with the Fab Fit Fun lifestyle box. It has a wide variety of items – from fashion and fitness to health and beauty – and the value that they jam into the box is really quite amazing. So if you’re even the tiniest bit intrigued, go ahead and check out my unboxing video for the Summer 2015 box:

So this is the third box that I’ve gotten from Fab Fit Fun, and it’s my favorite so far. There were some fun items in the Winter and Spring boxes I got, but so far this Summer box is the one with the most stuff that I love. Let’s have a look at a breakdown:

Vaseline Intensive Care Spray Moisturizer:
This is the only sponsored item in the Summer box, and while sponsored items can sometimes be pretty lame, I’m actually quite happy with this one. For one thing, who couldn’t use some moisturizer? For another thing it sprays on perfectly and smoothes into the skin in seconds without leaving any kind of greasy residue. This may actually be an item that I go on to purchase regularly. Value: $7.99

Gorge “I’ll Make You Look Amazing” Daily Spray:
I haven’t had too much chance to try this leave-in spray yet, but from what I’ve seen so far it seems to be of decent quality. It’s got a nice, summery scent and works through my hair easily, so I can definitely see myself giving it a good, fair trial. If only I’d remembered to bring it out West with me like I said in the video…grr! Value: $24.95

Hello Konjac Cleansing Sponge:
Okay, with this item I have to admit I wasn’t expecting much, but you guys, I’m in LOVE with it. I don’t even really know how to explain it but it feels SO good on my face, even without any kind of cleanser. It’s got this super-soft texture but really genuinely feels like it’s revitalizing my face. I don’t really know how else to explain it; you pretty much just have to try it out for yourself. I had intended to take this out West with me as well, but I forgot to pack it and now I’m super-sad! I’m definitely going to hunt these down online and buy a bunch because it genuinely feels like heaven. Value: $12

Inkling Scents “Sultry” Roll-on Perfume:
I haven’t actually gotten around to using this little roll-on fragrance yet, but I have to tell you guys that I do really like the scent. It’s very fresh and summery and is the perfect kind of scent for date night, if you get my drift. I do feel like it’s pricey for the size of the bottle, but that’s probably just me and my cheapness. Value: $25

tarte LipSurgence Lip Gloss:
I’ve worn this a couple of times since opening the box and my opinion is a little on the fence, but more leaning towards the “good” end. My main problem with it is that it’s a sticky kind of formula that I find difficult to spread onto my lips. But aside from that it’s a beautiful color that also happens to smell delicious, and it actually lasts quite a long time for a gloss. I definitely think I can get on board with LipSurgence glosses. Value: $19

Headspace 3-month subscription:
An awesome thing about this item that I have to point out right away: no credit card info required. You know how a lot of times if you get a trial subscription to something they’ll make you do the whole sign up and give your card info so that they can charge you the second the trial is up? Well not so with this one; you just go to the link on the back of the card and type in your code and you’re done: three months free. As I mentioned in the video I’m definitely not into paying for this particular service because I feel it’s way overpriced, but I do love the meditations so I’m going to use as many of them as I can and learn as much as I can before my three months run out! Value: $38.85

Scratch Limited Edition Nail Wraps:
I haven’t struck up the courage to try these yet, since I’m so confident that I’m going to screw them up and waste them. I’m definitely going to have to do some research on them before I take the plunge, but at least for now I can tell you that the design is really pretty! Value: $12

FabFitFun X CosmoBody Jump Rope:
I’m always interested to see what kind of “fit” items are going to be in this box, and I have to admit that I laughed a little to find a jump rope. I haven’t tried this out yet because I was just too busy, but I’m definitely going to because if it’s true that you can torch 150 calories in 10 minutes…well, come on! That would be amazing! A fun little item for sure, if for no other reason that it’ll be nostalgic to jump around in the backyard with it. Value: $14

FabFitFun Everyday Wireless Speaker:
I fully intended to try this speaker out the second I got a chance, but then I never really got a chance, so I can’t really tell you what it’s like yet. I can tell you that it is super-cute, really lightweight, and I’m definitely digging the fact that it has a rechargeable battery so I don’t have to waste my Energizers on it. What I’ve read from other reviews is that it’s really easy to pair with a phone, so that’s a good sign as well. Hopefully when I get home from this shift I’ll get a chance to clip it onto my belt and take it for a good run. Value: $29.99

Wren Moon Pendant in Rose Gold:
And then we have the star of the show, because even if you’re not really a jewelry person this is an amazing value that you could easily repurpose as a present for someone who is a jewelry person. There were a few different options for the design and material types, and I chose the moon shape in rose gold. It’s a super-pretty color and has a delicate little 1pt black sapphire set in the center, and it has the most amazing value of anything else in the box. Value: $100!

Total approximate value of box: $283.78 (card says $275.79 because the sponsored item is not included in the value)
Total cost to me: approximately $40

I mean, come on, just look at that cost-to-value ratio. That’s amazing! And because there are tons of items in the box you can even afford to hate a few of them and still make out with an amazing value. For myself, the cost of the moisturizer, face sponge, and lip gloss alone make up the cost of the box for me, and those are just a few of the cheapest items! When you add in things like the necklace and the wireless speaker it becomes positively astounding, which is why I’m so hooked on this box. Maybe I don’t necessarily love everything that comes in each box, but the number of things I do love make it way more than worth it to me.

My favorite item in the Summer 2015 box? Right now I’m totally obsessed with the Konjac sponge, but I also feel that the speaker is going to be a big deal once I’ve tried it out. My least favorite item? Probably the nail wraps, only because I’m certain I’m not going to be able to apply them properly and they’ll end up being a waste.

Now I’m super-excited for the Fall box! Keep up the good work, Fab Fit Fun!

What did you think of this box? Do you subscribe to Fab Fit Fun? What was your favorite item in the Summer box? Least favorite? What do you think about the value of the box? Please share!

YouTube-a-palooza!

I’ve mentioned many times before that blogging is a community “sport”, and that a big part of being in that community is sharing some love every now and then. The same is true for any community, including the YouTube one. Yes, you heard me say it: YouTube is a community. It’s full of a lot of morons and people being jackasses just for the sake of being jackasses, but there are also lots of awesome people who take care of each other and have lots of fun doing it. With that in mind, today I want to share with you some of my all-time favorite YouTubers.

Cinnemassacre

Plenty of you have probably already heard of Cinnemassacre, and those of you who have probably automatically equate the YouTube channel with the Angry Video Game Nerd. I love the Nerd’s game “reviews” and those videos have definitely skyrocketed Cinnemassacre’s popularity, but the channel is more than just that. I love their newest series – “Board James” – which features over-the-top reviews of old board games, and there’s something strangely amusing to me about the “James and Mike Mondays” feature, in which you simply watch two dudes play and talk about old video games. Long story short: if you’re a gamer, and enjoy a bit of a chuckle, you’ll probably get a kick out of perusing this channel.

The Grumpy Nerd

I don’t know why I (and tons and tons of other people) enjoy “unboxing” and “haul” videos so much, but we do, and one of my favorite people to watch doing these kinds of videos is the Grumpy Nerd. He does subscription boxes and tons of Funko Pop hauls, which I love, and despite referring to himself as “grumpy”, he actually gets adorably super-excited about some stuff, and that excitement is totally contagious.

Coffee Break With Dani

Despite all beliefs to the contrary, I can actually get super-girly at times, and at those times I love watching Dani’s channel. She is so cute and sweet as candy, and she’s also majorly knowledgeable about beauty and fashion. I look to her channel whenever I want to learn how to properly apply makeup, or if I’m just in the mood to listen to someone happily show off their awesome new jewelry. She’s also one of the happiest, most down-to-earth people I’ve ever seen, and that just makes her so easy to love that sometimes I even watch videos for which I have absolutely no interest in the topic, just to listen to her talk.

PixelDan Eardley

Dan is another subscription box fiend, but in addition to unboxing and haul videos he also does a lot of toy and collectible reviews. I really enjoy these reviews because he’s very detailed and gives you a really good idea of just what the item is all about; his videos are a great way to learn about something you might be considering ordering online, so that you have an idea of whether it’s actually a quality product before you go and spend your money on it. Plus, he’s just a really fun, happy guy who has a nerd collection that I would kill for.

surelyobsessed

I can never figure out how to properly pronounce this girly’s name (or remember how to spell it, for that matter), but she is a super-cutie who I just love to listen to. She does mostly beauty hauls and subscriptions, but she also does lots of excellent tutorials for makeup application. Her channel is definitely another mega-girly one, but I love it because she’s so cute and sweet and just seems like someone I would be able to be good friends with.

So that’s it for me, at least for now. Why not check out some of these channels and see what you think for yourself? And why not share some of your own favorites? I’d love to hear about them!

Big Ol’ ELF Haul

You all know that I’m a total nerd, a bit of a stress-a-holic, and that, given the choice, I love to be curled up on the couch reading, writing, or watching an awesome show. But if you follow my YouTube videos and my review posts, you know that there’s also a little tiny bit of femininity hiding amongst all the geekiness and laziness. It’s not a big part of me, but it’s still there on occasion.

That’s why I recently put in an order from ELF – or ‘Eyes Lips Face’. They were having a huge sale on their already-very-affordable items, and I thought I’d stock up (by which I mean this haul will probably be the last of any kind of cosmetics I purchase for quite a while). And because I do so enjoy making these YouTube videos, I thought I’d share that haul with you all. Check it out!

What did you think? Do you ever purchase anything from ELF? What is your favorite product? Least favorite? Are there other companies you prefer? I’d love to hear from you!

Ipsy Glam Bag Unbagging and Review for October 2014

I’ve been a subscriber to Ipsy’s Glam Bag service for three months now, and I have to say that I haven’t been disappointed yet. Let’s take a look at this month’s video, shall we?

As you can see, this month’s bag was just as value-packed as the last two months. Let’s check out the breakdown:

Ayres “Patagonia” Body Butter: Normally you would purchase a 6.75 oz tub of this body butter at a cost of $28. That makes my 1 oz sample worth a little more than $4.
Epice’s Purifying Exfoliant: This pricy cleanser goes for the price of $32 for 3.3 oz. My sample is 1 oz, making it worth almost $10.
“Nicole by O.P.I” nail lacquer: I was able to find this full-sized product on sale on several sites, but the regular price is about $7.
“Big Bold Curl” mascara by New York Color: I was actually surprised that this full-sized product isn’t nearly as expensive as I thought it was. It goes for $5.
Star Looks lipgloss: A full-sized lip gloss is $12. Unfortunately the website doesn’t seem to show the size, but I estimate that the sample I received is about a third of the full-size, so we’ll say it’s worth about $4.

Total approximate value of bag: $33 (estimating the makeup bag to be worth about $3)
Total cost to me: $15

So, as with the first two bags I received, the value is more than twice the cost to me, which is pretty awesome if I do say so myself.  I haven’t had a chance to really try out anything yet (except for the mascara, which, by the way, is great), but all in all it was a pretty great bag. So far every bag I’ve gotten has had at least two full-sized products, which alone make the bag worth buying, and so far there haven’t been very many items that I genuinely disliked. So, as always, I highly recommend this service! And if you’re going to check it out, please click on my referral link to be one of my favorite people ever! 😀
